School closure as a result of Red Heat Alert

Horrington Primary School will be closed on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June.  

We are planning to open the school as usual on Friday 26 June.

The safety and wellbeing of our children and staff are always our highest priority. During periods of extreme heat, the school environment can become challenging to keep cool, and prolonged exposure to such conditions may pose risks to health, particularly for young children.  We are also in the position where many local schools are closed meaning that our own staffing levels are reduced as a result of staff’s own childcare needs.  Without adequate staffing levels we are unable to open schools.

We encourage families to ensure children stay hydrated, remain in cool environments where possible, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest parts of the day.
