School Council - Who's Who?
At Horrington Primary school, we are committed to ensuring that our pupil's voices are heard. Our School Council provides a structured way for pupils to voice their opinions, contribute to school decisions, and participate in improving their school environment.
It also helps children to build leadership skills, learn about democratic processes, and feel a sense of ownership and responsibility for their school.
Every September, each KS1 and 2 class elects up to 3 representatives for the School council, which then meets monthly to discuss issues raised by their classes. The first meeting involves training and electing a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. The School council then visits the EYFS class to hear their views. After each meeting, class reps feed back to their classes what was discussed and what actions were agreed.
Last year's School council (24/25) worked on a range of issues including: school dinners, outdoor play, mufti days, class room furniture, reading buddies and Red Nose Day. Many were also involved in interviewing for our new Deputy Head.
